We launched the first volume of our creative writing group's work at The Everyman Theatre on Tuesday 27th May. Seven members of the group read their work to an appreciative audience and copies of the book were circulated at the venue. The book will be distributed at arts, community and cultural venues around the region. Work is continuing on Volume 2 ; Autumn/Winter 08. See 'Showcase' section of the Spider website for examples of the work.
In association with Youngaddaction we conducted a cross-generational mentoring programme in the Yorkshire Dales. A group of our 'mature' clients participated in a residential trip with some of Youngaddaction's younger clients. The group undertook team building, mountain biking and orienteering. We plan to repeat the exercise and link it to The Family mentoring programme at PSS.
Our website has been launched! Please feel free to contact us with any comments on our new site, or any send us any work you would like to see on our showcase page.
We have relocated to lovely new spacious offices on Rodney Street.
Previous Spider Project events:
We organised an event showcasing writing from group members as part of the annual WOW festival in Liverpool in April. The event took place at the Philharmonic Hall and proved to be one of the liveliest and best received events of the festival. We plan to stage a similar event for next year's festival.
The Funeral is a 25 minute black and white film scripted and performed by members of the Spider drama group. The film has been screened at the Unity Theatre and at the Kerry Film Festival in Ireland. It has also been entered into a number of short film competitions in the UK and Europe.
